  13.      In a recent meeting with volunteers it was apparent that we in
  14. government take it for granted that new staff, paid or volunteer, will not
  15. necessarily know the meaning of frequently used initials and acronyms. This
  16. list is not all inclusive and some of these are used only in California:
  17. ARES     Amateur radio Emergency Service
  18. ACS      Auxiliary Communications Service. What some governments call their
  19.          RACES plus non-ham communications resources.
  20. ARS      Auxiliary Radio Service. Similar to ACS.
  21. BLM      Bureau of Land Management
  22. CALCORD  California On-Scene Emergency Coordination radio plan
  23. Caltrans California Department of Transportation
  24. CAP      Civil Air Patrol
  25. CCDN     California Civil Defense Net (name of State RACES net 1950-1992)
  26. CDF      California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. (Remember
  27.          that "Forestry" is always State; Forest Service is Federal.)
  28. CESN     California Emergency Services Net (formerly called the CCDN)
  29. CESRS    CA Emergency Services Radio System (formerly known as the "LG system.)
  30. CHP      California Highway Patrol
  31. DAC      Disaster Assistance Center
  32. DCS      Disaster Communications Service. What Los Angeles County calls
  33.          their RACES
  34. DFO      Disaster Field Office
  35. DOT      Department of Transportation
  36. DWR      Department of Water Resources
